A charter school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a female student is facing more than two dozen criminal charges, court papers show.
Pascal Wayne Jones, 42, of Edmond, was charged Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court with 10 counts of forcible oral sodomy, five counts of rape by instrumentation and 10 counts of indecent or lewd acts with a child younger than 16.
The girl, 14, told police in August she was molested by Jones while she attended Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School in Oklahoma City, according to a probable cause affidavit.
It was unclear Tuesday whether Jones is employed by Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School, where prosecutors allege the acts took place between November 2011 and March.
Marcus Garvey Principal Kevin McPherson did not return calls seeking comment.
A spokeswoman for Oklahoma City Public Schools could not confirm whether Jones is employed by Marcus Garvey because the school district does not have access to the charter school's employment records.
Charter schools, an alternative to public schools, receive funding from the district, but do not follow the same rules and regulations as public schools, the spokeswoman said.
Jones was not among teachers listed on the school's website.
The girl told police the incidents occurred during elective school hours in Jones' classroom while the door was locked.
The girl's mother told investigators Jones tried to contact the girl after she changed schools, to get her to recant stories she told friends and adults about the sexual incidents, the affidavit states.
He was subsequently stopped by police at the girl's new school for stalking, an investigator wrote in the affidavit.
Police also investigated whether school staffers failed to protect the girl after she said she attempted to speak with them while the alleged incidents were taking place, according to the affidavit.
