A man is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl after her mother found text messages about their relationship, Oklahoma City police reported Wednesday.
Victor Luis Varela, 25, of Oklahoma City, was arrested on a rape complaint after police interviewed him Tuesday at police headquarters.
The victim's mother reported the crime to police July 29 after she found text messages from Varela to the girl on the girl's cellphone.
The girl initially denied any relationship with Varela.
From the police report
The mother showed police text messages from Varela to the girl stating “I miss you babe” and “muah,” signifying a kiss.
The girl's brother showed their mother text messages from his phone in which both the girl and Varela said they loved each other and dedicated love songs to each other.
The girl's mother also found text messages from the victim to a friend saying she was no longer a virgin and that Varela was the person she had sex with, the report shows.
The girl denied she and Varela were in a relationship until her mother took her to the hospital to be examined by a doctor.
While at the hospital, the girl admitted to having sex with Varela, the mother told police.
