TAHLEQUAH — A Cherokee County woman accused of burning her 15-month-old son's genitals with a flatiron was sentenced to 17 years in prison, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Jodi L. Rock, 20, of Tahlequah, entered a no-contest plea Tuesday in Cherokee County District Court to enabling child abuse by injury.
Rock told investigators she closed the iron's clamps on the toddler's genitals, according to an arrest affidavit.
The child had three burns across the genital area, starting on the inside of his right thigh across his testicles and on to the left inner thigh, the affidavit states.
Several fractures were found on the child's left shoulder, and old fractures were found on his right shoulder, forearm and wrist, the affidavit states.
“She never gave a reason on why she burned the toddler,” First Assistant District Attorney Jack Thorp said.
“It is very likely he probably won't remember,” Thorp said.
The child remains in state custody, he said.
