A man serving time for rape told a judge Thursday he wrote the affidavit recanting his grandson's allegations.
The document is at the center of an appeal that could vacate Harold Lee Belton's conviction.
When questioned by prosecutors, Belton, 62, of Oklahoma City, said he mailed the affidavit to his brother-in-law to have the grandson sign.
“I told him to sign it if it was true,” he testified.
Belton was convicted of first-degree rape in December 2004 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
