A fire that scorched a portion of the abandoned Gatewood Academy on Thursday evening is thought to be arson, authorities said.
About 7:45 p.m., firefighters were called to the school, 721 W Britton Road, and found smoke and flames coming from the front of the building, Oklahoma City fire Battalion Chief Randy Cornelius said.
No one was hurt and the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, he said.
Two people were seen running from the building as it caught fire, Cornelius said.
The cause of the fire was not determined Thursday evening, and a damage estimate has not been made.
The Oklahoma City Public School District stopped using the building in the late 1990s.
