A Midwest City woman charged Tuesday with first-degree murder told police she acted in self-defense when she “went at” her boyfriend with a knife, court records show.
Oklahoma County prosecutors allege Asja T. Smith, 36, fatally stabbed Walter Garland III, 48, of Oklahoma City, July 16 at 1613 SE 52, where Garland lived.
Smith, identified as Asia Smith by police in a probable cause affidavit, told investigators she retaliated after Garland attacked and stabbed her during an altercation.
“ … she thought the victim was going to kill her,” a detective wrote in the affidavit, adding that Smith said Garland “has pulled a knife on her before.”
Police found Garland lying on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds to his arms and neck.
