NORMAN — Cleveland County Sheriff Joe Lester says his agency has helped raise more than $42,000 for a scholarship in honor of a University of Oklahoma student-ballerina who was kidnapped and murdered in 1996.
Lester presented a check for $42,343 to the OU Foundation on Monday after a golf tournament fundraiser for the Juli Busken Memorial Scholarship.
A ballerina at the university's School of Dance and a native off Benton, Ark., Busken was kidnapped from her Norman apartment in December 1996 and found shot to death hours later at Lake Stanley Draper.
