SALLISAW — A woman who thought her husband had a $1 million life insurance policy pleaded no contest to murder charges in connection with this death, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
Raelynne Simonin, 25, entered the plea Tuesday in Sequoyah County District Court as the jury was being brought into the courtroom, Assistant District Attorney Tony Evans said.
Prosecutors said Simonin arranged for three men to beat and fatally shoot her husband, Jack Vincent Purselley, 39, of Akins, on July 25, 2011.
Described as a “con man” by authorities, Purselley told his wife he had a $1 million life insurance policy and she was the beneficiary, according to an arrest affidavit.
His body was found in his home after Arizona authorities alerted Sequoyah County officers that Simonin showed up at Purselley's family home and falsely reported she had been raped and kidnapped, the affidavit states.
Simonin then asked Purselley's family for the whereabouts of a life insurance policy and money the victim had in the bank, the affidavit states.
Formal sentencing is set for Oct.
