An Oklahoma City police officer is suing the city, alleging he was retaliated against for reporting police misconduct.

Phil A. Williams, 52, contends he was told to “keep his mouth shut” about a police captain's involvement in a massive auto-theft ring.

He also alleges he was retaliated against for hiring an attorney disliked by the police chief.

Williams filed the civil rights lawsuit Wednesday in Oklahoma City federal court, two years after he was put on administrative leave and stripped of all duties.

He is suing the city, Police Chief Bill Citty and three other police officials.

Williams has been under internal investigation because of accusations made by a police detective in December 2011.

Most notably, Williams was accused of leaking information to criminal defense attorneys, including his personal attorney and good friend, Scott Adams.

Williams said the accusations against him are false.
