IRS warns of email scam
The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers of a scam involving fake emails from a legitimate organization inside the agency.
The emails appear to be from the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service, with a bogus case number, but the IRS said it does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text or any social media.
The fake emails direct recipients to click on links that lead to web pages that solicit personal information.
