An Oklahoma County judge declared a mistrial Tuesday afternoon after a murder defendant announced following jury selection that he wanted to represent himself.
Willie Jerome Boyd, 36, was held in contempt of court immediately after he declared his wish, but District Judge Ray Elliott purged the offense at the end of the hearing.
Boyd announced his intention after the jury was chosen and was preparing to leave the courtroom.
