New evidence may bring release of Oklahoma mom convicted of killing child

A woman who has spent 20 years in prison on a conviction in the murder of her infant son at her Tulsa apartment could be on the verge of being released from custody.

Based on forensic analysis of blood evidence, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion Thursday requesting that Michelle Murphy’s murder conviction and no-parole life term be vacated, meaning her case would not be dismissed but she could pursue a new trial or some other resolution of her case.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Friday before District Judge William Kellough, and defense attorney Richard O’Carroll anticipated that Murphy, who is now 37, will be released on bond that day.
