A man whose female accomplice fled a robbery and died in a police chase has multiple felony convictions, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Oklahoma County District Court.
Sammie Nugent, 60, was arrested Tuesday on a complaint of robbery with a dangerous weapon after he and a woman robbed and beat a victim at a truck stop, according to the affidavit.
Nugent has five felony convictions in Oklahoma County — most recently for concealing stolen property — and was convicted in 2002 in Texas of second-degree burglary, the affidavit shows.
Nugent and Aline Marie Williams, 54, who also had a lengthy criminal history, targeted a truck driver at JR's Truck Stop, 1901 E Reno Ave., police reported.
According to the affidavit, a woman approached the truck driver and offered to have sex with him.
Afterward, the driver got out of the truck to go into the store and was attacked by a man.
Both people stopped him from running into the business for help, according to the affidavit.
Williams beat the victim with a hammer and took the money from his wallet, then ran to Nugent's Chevy Blazer and fled the scene, the affidavit says.
Nugent tried to get in the vehicle but fell to the ground, the affidavit states.
Police chased Williams north on Martin Luther King Avenue.
She crashed into an unoccupied building at NE 18 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nugent was restrained by a witness and the victim until police arrived, the affidavit states.
