OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma City mom is facing child neglect charges after police say she left her daughter out in the cold and gave her an electronic cigarette to smoke.
An Oklahoma City TV station reports that 46-year-old Daphne Lynn Steen is accused of sleeping inside her apartment while her 7-year-old daughter was stranded outside in the cold.
Steen told police she didn't hear the girl knock because she was in a “deep sleep” from medication she was taking.
The girl told investigators that her mother gave her an e-cigarette in order to stop talking.
The girl is now staying with her father.
